ELVIS - Elvis Aaron Presley (1935 - 1977). American singer and guitarist. He was
the most influential performer of the rock and roll era. With
hits including Heartbreak Hotel, Hound Dog and Jailhouse Rock he
created an individual style, influenced by Southern Blues,
Country music Gospel music and Rhythm and blues. Even today his
records sell millions.
He was born in Tupelo, Mississippi
and first recorded on the Sun record label in Memphis Tennessee until Sun sold his recording contract to RCA when Elvis became a
nationwide star in 1956 at the insistence of his new manager, the
self styled Colonel Tom Parker.
Elvis made many films over his
career including Jailhouse Rock and Loving You.
After his army service (1958 -
1960) he Recorded Elvis Is Back but from then on his career deteriorated and he became a Las Vegas has been until The Elvis
Comeback Special.
When Elvis died in 1977 he was
buried in the grounds of his Memphis mansion, Graceland which has
been kept as a shrine to Elvis and even today is a mega bucks
tourist attraction.
